Module 5 – Employment History (5-Year Rule)

 

BS7858 requires a continuous 5-year employment history. As a Screening & Vetting Officer, you must ensure all periods are accounted for.

You must verify:

  • Employer names
  • Job titles
  • Dates of employment

Acceptable evidence includes:

  • Employer references
  • HMRC letters
  • Payslips
  • P45 or P60
  • Education letters
  • Self-employment records

If there are gaps, you must:

  • Ask for explanation
  • Request evidence
  • Record the reason

Common gaps may include:

  • Unemployment
  • Travel
  • Study
  • Illness
  • Overseas work
