Module 3 – Role & Responsibilities of a Screening & Vetting Officer
A Screening and Vetting Officer is responsible for checking that candidates meet the required standards before they are allowed to work.
Your role is to carry out background checks, protect sensitive information, and ensure screening decisions are accurate and fair.
Main responsibilities include:
- Checking identity
- Verifying employment history
- Conducting criminal record checks
- Checking Right to Work
- Verifying addresses
- Reviewing qualifications
- Keeping accurate records
- Protecting personal data
- Reporting risks to managers
You must:
- Be honest and fair
- Remain neutral and unbiased
- Keep information confidential
- Follow company procedures
- Escalate concerns when required
You must NOT:
- Make personal judgements about candidates
- Discriminate against any individual
- Ignore missing or unclear information
- Share personal data unnecessarily
