About this training

About this training

Have you ever connected your phone or laptop to public Wi-Fi while out and about—perhaps at a GP surgery, café, or during a long coach journey? This is increasingly common, especially with the rise of hybrid and remote working. However, using public Wi-Fi without appropriate precautions can expose both your personal and organisational data to significant risk.

Under UK data protection laws such as the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, organisations are required to protect personal data and prevent unauthorised access. A data breach can lead not only to financial loss, but also regulatory penalties and reputational damage.

In this training, you will learn about some of the most common threats to information security, including social engineering, malware, and network-based attacks. You will also explore practical steps and best practices to help protect both your data and your organisation.
